Funebrarum - Double Post

'Double Post'
2001 & 2009

Review by Elek Malcolm Madill

Genre/s: Death Metal
For Fans Of: Incantation, Trenchrot, Obituary, Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Feral
Fave Tracks: Adoration of Abscessed Cadavers, Beyond Recognition

Funebrarum is a classically inspired death metal band from New Jersey in the likeness of bands like Incantation and Swedish greats like Entombed and God Macabre. Whereas their 2001 album 'Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods' is more straightforward with its approach to death metal the band's second and thus far only full length album 'The Sleep of Morbid Dreams' is much more complex in its instrumentation. Columns of Abandoned Gods and Sleep of Morbid Dreams are the only two full length LPs by Funebrarum, after having released a split with Undergang five years ago they haven't released anything new yet. Hopefully they will, after Incantation's recent "Dirges of Elysium" I'm hopeful for the comeback of a few more of the bands from the 90s New York death metal scene. Funebrarum make the best possible use of melody in death metal without actually entering the realm of melodic death metal- along with a shitload of tremolo picking Funebrarum definitely establish themselves in these two albums as huge fans of the early Scandinavian death metal scene as well. The truly important thing that Funebrarum realizes however is that you also need to bring your own spin to this as well, rather than just essentially playing Nihilist or Grave covers and pretending its a new thing like some bands unfortunately do (I swear they become easier and easier to pick out just by looking at the album covers/song titles//etc as time goes on though). But enough- enjoy Fubebrarum's death metal masterpieces below.

  3. Hi,
The very next time I read a blog, I hope that it does not disappoint me as much as this particular one.Funny Happy New Year Quotes I mean, I know it was my choice to read, but I truly thought you would probably have something useful to say. All I hear is a bunch of crying about something that you could possibly fix if you were not too busy searching for attention.
