Nequam Sonitus - 900N Howard

'900N Howard'
Nequam Sonitus

Review by Elek Malcolm-Madill

Genre/s: Harsh Noise, Industrial, Power Electronics
For Fans Of: Sissy Spacek, John Duncan, The Locust

Imagine being kidnapped, blindfolded, and tied to a chair while a deranged psychopath/would-be noise musician forced you to listen to the most bizarre shit imaginable and you'll get a basic idea of what it's like to listen to Nequam Sonitus. Primarily a live performance act from Tampa, Florida with not much known about the actual members. The act the band puts on has a person dressed up from head to toe as a creature appearing to be made out of metal crawls onto the stage and begins to break things set up beforehand as well while the artist's harsh noise tracks blare in the background. I never really know quite what to say when reviewing harsh noise albums, however if I had to make a comparison between many of Nequam Sonitus' songs I would have to compare it to “Plague Soundscapes" by The Locust. With quite a lot of material to cover as well as very little consistency in song structure there is very little I can say about Nequam Sonitus other than the fact that it's a great (albeit strange) bit of noise that relies mainly on industrial aspects and the apparent howls of the monster, called Nequam Sonitus, that is featured in it's stage acts. Nequam Sonitus will be if anything, an interesting experience to listen to.
