Planet AIDS - Apokalyptik AIDS

'Apokalyptik AIDS'
Planet AIDS

Review by Elek Malcolm-Madill

Genre/s: Blackened Noise, Industrial, Drone Metal
For Fans Of: Portal, Xasthur, Gnaw Their Tongues

Despite sounding like a bizarre joke band trying to make a bad pun of Hellhammer's classic "Apocalyptic Raids" Planet AIDS have actually managed to create something pretty worthwhile on their first, and apparently only EP. The single track (sharing the same name as the album) is pretty accurately described by another review I read that the EP "is the soundtrack to genocide, pestilence, [or] anything that causes mass amounts of suffering." Apokalyptik AIDS drones through about twenty five minutes of ear-splitting feedback mixed with background instrumentation that feels extremely Xasthur-esque -making its pretty accessible (this literally the only semblance of "accessibility" the EP has) for the black metal fan while still bringing elements of industrial and drone metal to the table.
