Puke
2014
Review by Brayden Bagnall
Genre/s: Hardcore, Grindcore
For Fans Of: Dead In The Dirt, Converge, Shackles, Rort, Torch Runner, Suffer
Puke,(who are no longer with us unfortunately) dropped this doozy of a posthumous release just a few days ago, and boy won't it make you feel like a chump. No, I'm not just talking about the impressive songwriting and musicianship (which is as tight as it is crushingly heavy), but also the fact that Puke's four members were all under the age of 18 whilst recording this - and still attending high school.
Puke's self titled EP contains 9 songs of rapid fire hardcore presented in chaotic, grindcore infused format. This thing basically spits riff after riff after riff at you in the most brutish, dissonant way possible while still retaining its furious momentum and pushing forward into the next bone shattering passage. While impressively technical, this EP never enters the dreaded realm of 'wankery' (god forbid) and instead recalls the sort of prowess utilized by the likes of Converge or Discordance Axis.
This EP seems to be stuck in digital purgatory for the time being, but on the plus side it's free - so snag it up and dig some of the gnarliest, heaviest tunes ever conceived by jail bait.
