Forced Expression - Self Titled

'Forced Expression'
Forced Expression
1995

Review By Brayden Bagnall

Genre/s: Powerviolence, Grindcore
For Fans Of: Apartment 213, Dahmer, Crossed Out, No Less, In Disgust

Iowa will probably always be known as the state that gave birth to Slipknot, which is unfortunate, because these guys were from there too. Forced Expression were not fortunate to share the same state as many of favourite 90s powerviolence bands (or any powerviolence bands for that matter), but they did produce some crushingly heavy tunes whilst they were around. It's the same formula we know and love - stop/starts, sludge-y breakdowns with vocals split between guttural lows and a more standard hardcore bellow. This is totally Crossed Out worship, but it's heavier, and slightly more grindcore oriented - nor is it  a bunch of ex-scene kids trying to jock them twenty years later, so I guess it's okay.
