'Paddock Of Love'
Lubricated Goat
1988
Review by Brayden Bagnall
Genre/s: Noise Rock, Post Punk, Grunge
For Fans Of: The Birthday Party, Cosmic Psychos, Halo Of Flies, Cows, The Scientists
Look, everyone knows the Birthday Party were the greatest post punk band to come out of Australia, but did they play on live television naked? Nup. Not surprisingly, Lubricated Goat's music was just as sleazy and confrontational as their television performace, taking The Birthday Party's vaudeville gone wrong vibe and beating the living shit out of it with Sabbath riffs, feedback and punkish vocals. There's a few out there who believe Grunge did indeed begin in Australia, and all the proof you need is within. These guys, along with fellow scuzzballs Cosmic Psychos brought a whole new sound to the barren wastes of 1980s Australia, and indeed the world. Equal parts weird and aggressive, Paddock Of Love is a classic Aussie album, that you probably won't ever hear on Triple M. For shame.
